With the Love Island winners crowned, we need a new TV obsession to get our teeth into – enter The Great British Bake Off (and yes, pun intended!). With the sun and warm weather seeming to have disappeared for the time being, we can’t wait to get cosy on the sofa in our Love Leggings to watch the new Bake Off hopefuls vie for the praise and famous ‘Hollywood Handshake’ from judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
According to insiders, the show will be back to grace our screens in August, always signalling the beginning of Autumn, with its two-month run up to the final. Today, the teaser trailer has been released, showing that presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig are back to keep the contestants calm amongst the chaos, and giving a much-needed shoulder to cry on for the hopefuls who make some messy mistakes in the Bake Off tent.
In the comedic teaser trailer, we begin with a breaking news segment reporting that “baking fever sweeps the nation” (extra points if you spotted ‘Victoria Sponge’!) with chaos ensuing in the supermarkets, with shoppers grabbing for the last few eggs, butter and milk cartons in the shop. Cue the montage of people trying their hand at their own unusual bakes including a giant sandwich, green cupcakes and a perfect slice of Victoria Sponge enjoyed in space, all to soundtrack of ‘All Together Now’ by the Beatles.
If you take a closer look at the advert, you’ll spot the array of different individuals from different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and ages; a decision made by Channel 4 to, instead of celebrating the nation’s favourite bakes, highlight the wonderful variety of people behind those bakes.
Celebrating its 10th series of the show, The Great British Bake Off has really brought the ‘feel good’ to this year’s trailer, so we have something to make us smile as the nights start drawing in, and the summer comes to a gradual end. A date for the launch has not yet been confirmed, but with the following two series having a similar framework, we can expect to see the show hit our screens once again towards the far end of August 2019.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the trailer, and if you’re looking forward to this year’s series! Be sure to check out the eccentric trailer by Channel 4 below!
