Practising Self-love this Valentine's Day

For some, Valentine’s day is all about the perfect outfit and fancy dinner reservations and there’s nothing wrong with that.


But 14th February should be about more than just romantic love. It’s a great opportunity to remind yourself of all the reasons why you love you and take a moment to show it. So, here are a few ideas about how to practice self-love this season.


Any single woman knows, the best thing about being single is freedom. You get to choose exactly what you want to do when you want to do and how it will be done. So, for a night of self-care, let’s start with an easy choice: Stay in and spend the night alone or find a quiet corner of the house.


You don’t need to subject yourself to the crowds. It’ll be busy, over-priced and full super-cheesy Valentine’s Day decorations. Instead, keep it casual by celebrating at home. Put on your comfy clothes (like a pair of our high-waisted leggings) and bed-down on the sofa because one of the best parts of an evening alone is that you get COMPLETE control of the remote!

If you’re staying in, don’t forget you still need to eat. It’s easy to just order in (and pizza is ALWAYS a good call) but why not switch it up? Instead of reaching for the closest takeaway menu, cook yourself your favourite meal. After all, there’s nothing better than a home-cooked meal made with love.


Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year so, if you’re alone, go wild: You want steak? Go for it! Tacos? Yes, please! Go that extra mile and make something you’d never usually make for one. Add lots of fresh vegetables to get that extra feel-good factor. And don’t forget dessert!


After you’ve satisfied your taste buds, it’s time to focus on the rest of your body. Here at Love Leggings, we love a face mask, bubble bath or manicure but whatever beauty treatments you’ve been putting off, now is the time. Treat yourself like the queen you are! And, while you’re relaxing in your tub, try a few breathing or meditation exercises to keep you feeling extra zen. Let the stress of the day wash away.


Now you’re feeling good, it’s time to reflect on you – your inner beauty. Take a minute to think about all the things you love about yourself and everything you have to be grateful for. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to forget to celebrate the little things. This is the perfect time to recognise that, actually, life is pretty good. And that you are complete with or without a significant other.


Make a list. Write post-it notes and stick them on your mirror. Send yourself a love note. Might seem a little corny but it’ll give you an extra boost of self-esteem.


These aren’t just suggestions for over Valentine’s Day, they’re simple things you can do week on week to take care of yourself. You shouldn’t need an excuse to treat yourself right.
